SUBJECT:
NEWS CAPSULES
VI FROM THE E.L.C.G.
Dear
Fellow Co- Workers,
IN NOMINE JESU!!!
As we prepare the sixth
(VI) issue of
NEWS CAPSULES
at this time, we are truly appreciative of the kind
comments received to date for its continued success.
Some
of you tell us that photos would enhance the news items.
Others of you wish it to be mailed to interested
individuals who may request it for a small subscription
fee. And
yet a few of you feel some news items should not be
carried in News Capsules.
We
welcome all your comments and would certainly endeavour
to see improvement of News Capsules in 2009.
But in the meanwhile we offer this closing quip:
Two and two will
continue to make four inspite of the whine of the
amateur for three and the cry of the critic for five.
Now here are a
few stories we feel are newsworthy at this time:
(1).
ST ANDREW WORSHIP
BULLETIN DRAWS PRAISE FROM E.L.C.A PASTOR:
The contemporary order of service
prepared by the St. Andrew Lutheran Parish on the East
Coast Demerara for its
annual United
Service in
August has received
high praise
from Pastor
Lawrence Baietti writing from
Ft.
Collins in cold
Colorado,
U.S.A.
Pastor Baietti has this to say:
"I
was also very impressed by the St Andrew Parish bulletin
you sent.
It was a beautiful liturgy.
The wording of certain sections was so unique –
i.e, the ABSOLUTION, THE KYRIE, THE GLORIA IN EXCELSIS.
The PREFACE and the PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING were
beautiful.
How much better than just reciting the (magic?) WORDS OF
INSTITUTION ……. The ANGUS DEI is awesome!! …………… I never
recall hearing anything about Pastor Nahar but you can
thank him for me!!!”
So to
Pastor Stephen
Nahar and St Andrew Parish, please accept
KUDOS from
Pastor Lawrence
Baietti for such great liturgical innovations!!!

ADVENT RALLIES FOR LUTHERAN WOMEN:
Every
year, the women across the E.L.C.G. begin their
Spiritual preparation for Christmas by meeting in
various districts for ADVENT RALLIES.
On Sunday November, 30th, some five
(5) Rallies are being organized as the ADVENT Season
begins. The
Rallies give women a chance to listen to invited Guest
Preachers on a spoken theme.
This year the theme is:
“HOW HAPPY WE
ARE! WHAT JOY IS OURS!!” (Matthew 2:9-10)
A
lovely moment in the Service is when the first Advent
Candle is lit, for it is so coordinated that it is done
simultaneously in all the various locations.
In this way, the women at that moment feel
connected in a special way.

LUTHERANS ATTEND HISTORIC NATIONAL CONFERENCE:
The
ETHNIC RELATIONS COMMISSION (E.R.C) extended an
invitation for Lutherans to participate in an
inter-faith Dialogue with other leaders in Guyana.
The Conference was held November 20th
2008 at the International Conference Centre on the East
Coast of Demerara and saw a diverse group of religious
participants, representing all the major Religious
Bodies in
Guyana.
Participants were
addressed by the President of Guyana, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo
and the Chairman of the E.R.C, Bishop Juan Edgehill.
Later participants met in smaller groups to
discuss ways to promote religious harmony in Guyana in
showing tolerance and respect for one another.
Representing the E.L.C.G were
Pastor Inshanally, Pastor Nahar, Ms Babsie Pierre and
Ms. Kavita Karran.

IN MEMORIAM -
PASTOR WALLACE WOLFF:
We thank Pastor Paul Tidemann and
Guyana Mission Network for relaying news to the E.L.C.G.
on the recent death of Pastor Wallace Wolff.
Old timers in our
Church may recall with fondness that Pastor Wolff and
his family lived for thirteen (13) years in then
British Guiana when he served as a
Missionary/Pastor between the years 1945-1949 and 1952
to 1960.
Among the various Parishes Pastor Wallace Wolff served
are Ebenezer Parish, St Matthew Parish, Redeemer Parish
and Transfiguration Parish.
Pastor Rodwell Thom,
former President of the E.L.C.G; and now an E.L.C.A
Pastor has
this to say:
“I met Pastor
Wolff when he preached at a Ministry Among Guyanese
Service in New York City some years ago.
That brought back a warm memory – Pastor Wolff
had given the Pastors crosses made
from the altar
rail from old Ebenezer, New
Amsterdam.
The crosses were handcrafted and
when he presented them, Pastor Wolff said words to this
effect: ‘These
crosses were made by imperfect hands and are not perfect
in symmetry but they tell us of
the Man
who is perfect, who on e day shall make us perfect.’
I still have that
cross. ”
Pastor Wallace Wolff was 92 years
old and he is survived by his three (3) children and
many grandchildren. MAY
HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE
(5).THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL AND THE NATIONAL
COMMITTEES IN
JOINT PARTNERSHIP:
November,
8th 2008 was no ordinary day for members of
the Executive Council and the members of the various
Committees of the E.L.C.G.
Meeting in a Joint Retreat
At the Lutheran Lay Academy Hall,
New Amsterdam, some twenty-three participants
evaluated the current trends of Ministry within the
Church and then planned a course of action for the
Committees to consider as urgent business.
At least four (4) Committees were able to arrive
at some consensus for the way forward.
Hopefully the next six (6) months will see a
flurry of activities within the E.L.C.G.
(6).
THE ARCHIVAL
ROOM GETS SOME ORDER:
The
Archival Vault
of the E.L.C.G.
is housed at the
Lutheran
Courts
Administrative
Building,
New Amsterdam.
It contains largely un-catalogued materials going
back some half-a-century or more.
Over the years, it was not tidied and had fallen
into gross neglect.
This has changed recently.
The Administrative Secretary - Yvonne Seepersaud
has exerted a heroic effort to bring some order and
organization to the Archival Room and NEWS CAPSULES
VI join in thanking her for a job well done!!!!!
NEWS
CAPSULES VI wishes all our readers/contributors a
BLESSED ADVENT, as we wait His coming again, MERRY
CHRISTMAS as we celebrate His birth and may 2009 holds
many blessings as we extend our hands in partnership for
the Gospel sake!!!!
SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!
