27th
June, 2008.
TO:
ALL PASTORS AND
PARISH COUNCILS OF THE E.L.C.G.
FROM: PASTOR ERROL INSHANALLY, THE PRESIDENT OF THE E.L.C.G.
SUBJECT: NEWS CAPSULE FROM THE E.L.C.G.
Dear
Fellow Co-Workers,
IN
NOMINE JESU!!!
On
June 28th, 2008 the
Christian Church
around the World will begin celebrations to mark the
2000th Birthday of the Apostle Paul, the
premier servant of the Gospel.
On this
happy occasion, I greet you through this letter not just
as the newly elected President of our Church but more as
a worker together with you.
These are fearful times
in our country with an increase in criminal activities
and bandits on the move.
Yet the
Church is committed to tell “the old, old story of Jesus
and His Love”.
May we never grow weary in this task.
At the request of the Executive Council, I now wish to bring you up
to date with the goings on in our Church:
(1). RETURN OF MS. DIANA LIVERPOOL - MINISTERIAL
STUDENT:
Ms Diana Liverpool returned home on June, 9th
after successfully completing Theological Studies at
U.T.C.W.I, Jamaica.
As she
awaits the date of Ordination, she will meet
with the Executive Council for an interview and also she
will do some Parish Work in association with Pastor
Inshanally.
Ms Liverpool has
accepted a Parish Call from the Transfiguration Parish.
(2). SUMMER ASSIGNMENT OF LINDA HEPKER – STUDENT OF WARTBURG
THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY – U.S.A:
The
Ebenezer Parish has a
Special Visitor
this Summer.
Her name is LINDA HEPKER a student and she is doing a
RESEARCH PROPOSAL on the Leadership Roles of Women in the Ebenezer
Parish to fulfill an academic requirement for Wartburg
Theological Seminary – U.S.A.
This study will be surely beneficial to the entire
Church for its findings, when completed will give us new
insights into leadership roles for women.
(3). INSTALLATION OF PASTOR LEROY NICHOLSON IN ADVENT PARISH:
The
Installation Service of
Pastor Leroy
Nicholson in
Advent Parish was held on Sunday, June 22nd
at Advent Congregation, Armadale, West Coast, Berbice.
It was a
joyful celebration by the
members to
welcome into the Parish their new Pastor.
Various Parishes sent representatives to the
Service.
(4). DEDICATION OF THE ST JAMES
LUTHERAN
CHURCH
BUILDING, WHIM VILLAGE,
CORENTYNE, BERBICE:
All roads lead this Sunday, June 29th,
2008, to St James Lutheran Church at Whim
Village, Corentyne, Berbice
for the dedication of the Church building which is
entirely rebuilt.
The building is a beautiful one and quite
spacious and the congregation is the envy of all of us.
Pastor
Judy Mc Guire and the St James Congregation receive our
CONGRATULATIONS for this big achievement.
A Memorial Plaque will also be placed in the
building to commemorate the life and witness of the late
Balwantsingh Dasrat.
(5). PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO
THE E.L.C.G CONSTITUTION BY-LAWS:
The Convention, 2008 was Historic in many ways
and an important development was at the Convention.
Pastors and Delegates voted to adopt the proposed
AMENDMENTS to
the E.L.C.G
CONSTITUTION BY-LAWS.
The
Convention registered its gratitude for the labour of
love rendered by Mr Samuel Goolsarran, Parliamentarian,
in this important area of Church Life and we are
thankful that these Amendments will enable Congregations
and Parishes to function smoothly. That is why a
copy of the full Text of
these Amendments
is being provided for every Church Council and may be
also displayed on the Church Bulletin Board.
(6). TRAVELLING INCREASES FOR ALL PASTORS:
In light of the soaring cost of living and the
hardships being borne by one and all, the Executive
Council is mindful that Pastors’ Salaries have not been
raised at the last Convention.
Therefore it has taken a decision that the
present times warrant an increase for Pastors.
So, the Traveling Allowance will be increased to
$6,000.00 beginning in the month of June, 2008.
We trust that this increase will be recognized as
a valid one.
(7).
RE-COMMISSIONING OF THE PRESENT CORPS OF DEACONS
AND DEACONESS:
The Executive Council has moved to re-commission
the present Deacons and Deaconess who serve in the
E.L.C.G to the Ministry of Word and Sacraments.
I refer to Deacon Sugrim Gobin of the St Andrew
Parish, Deacon Indarjit Eugene of the Ebenezer Parish
and Deaconess Gloria Sampson of the Ascension Parish.
Also with respect to the new batch of Graduants of the Lutheran Lay
Academy, measures are now
put in place to identify those who really desire to go
to the Diaconate Order of the Church. They will be under
Pastoral Supervision for a year with the view to being
commissioned to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament as
well.
The of the Executive Council will be evaluating the
ONLINE COURSES being offered by the E.LC.A Seminaries
prepare for ASSOCIATES IN MINISTRY and to see how some
of these Courses can be resourced for the continuing
Education Programme in the Lay Academy.
